Why do this?

Well...thats a good question.  First of all, have you seen that google commercial about the Dad who sends e-mail to his kid? If not, here it is: The google commercial where the kids looks like my oldest daughter and the dad surprisingly looks nothing like me. Go look...I'll wait...

Well, tell me, for those of you who know her, that the little girl doesnt look totally like Maya. So, there I was lying bed at 1030 at night, watching sportscenter and this commercial comes on and suddenly I'm like a teenage girl at a "twilight" movie.  For the adoptive father of three Korean kids, that commercial is like the last scene of "Terms of Endearment" when Debra Winger is about to die and the kids are there...I challenge you to not look away and not end up crying...

So, Im sitting in bed, NHL playoff highlights are on sportscenter and I'm thinking "I'm half the father this David Lee guy is"...my e-mails to my kids consist of short one-liners like "Maya, clean up your room" or "Ryan, remember to brush your teeth. you have REALLY bad breath". This guy is e-mail his thoughts to his kids regularly so that one day, when his daughter gets married, she'll go to this website and see what a great father this dude is and be all "Dad, I love you. youre the best"...Whereas my daughter will not doubt say "Dad, this is it?!?" WELL, WE CANT HAVE THAT...

So, I thought it might be cool to share my thoughts about my kids with the world.  However, I recognize that no one wants to hear my sentimental or maudlin musing about how much i love my kids or how great they are (dont you hate how people have this need on facebook and such to point out how great their kids are? "Little Johnny just won the 3rd great history competition...he dressed up as a civil war general!" Please, my kid can take a pair of rubber gloves and make fart noises that sound like the national anthem...THAT IS A USEFUL TALENT. top that!) Rather, I thought I would share with you my general perspective that parenting is the best and worst job in the world by telling everyone the funny things that my kids do and that they make me do.

Now the real challenge here is not to make too much fun of my wife in the process...That is a losing proposition on SOOO many levels. However, if you cant laugh at yourself, really, youre either totally no fun at all or you got a problem....and we all know how much fun my wife can be. so in advance, SORRY JP.

Oh, and Maya, if youre reading this and its your wedding, be nice to me...its no doubt costing me a ton of money...
